Olympia Morata composed these lines in Greek when she was Olympia Morata book her early teens (English translation in Bainton, p.

For a period of about ten years, she did as her poem says, setting aside domestic duties for the opportunity to study classical languages and literatures at the court of Ferrara.

Simonetta Carr is the author of the series, Christian Biographies for Young Readers, published by Reformation Heritage Book. She has written a novel for young girls on the life of Olympia Morata (Weight of a Flame, the Passion of Olympia Morata), scheduled to be published in the summer by P&R Publishing, Phillipsburg, NJ, Weight of a Flame: The Passion of Olympia Morata (Chosen Daughters Book 5) - Kindle edition by Carr, Simonetta.

The 5th book in The Chosen Daughters Series, Weight of a Flame, tells the story of a girl, Olympia Morata, becoming a women wholly devoted to Christ.

Though she lived centuries before us, Olympia's story will spur you on in your faith/5(8). The court of Ferrara, where Olympia Morata was born, became a hotbed of evangelical Protestantism when the duke of Este married Renée of France in The new duchess of Ferrara established a “court within a court” that functioned as a center of Calvinist and Reformation ideas in papist Italy.

The one who really blew me away was Olympia Fulvia Morata. She was a child prodigy from Ferrara in Italy. By the age of twelve she was fluent in Greek and Latin. She composed treatises on Homer, lectured on Cicero, wrote poetry in Latin and Greek, all while still in her teens.

Here’s one of her early poems, about her love of learning. But Morata's husband sent Morata's surviving work to Celio Secondo Curione, who had been Fulvio Morato's friend and who had been one of Olympia's most dedicated supporters and a life-long correspondent.

An Italian humanist scholar, Curione had fled the Inquisition himself, eventually winding up at the University of Basel. The turbulent period which followed the Reformation is captured well in a new book by Simonetta Carr. In "Weight of a Flame: The Passion of Olympia Morata" (part of the Chosen Daughters series from P & R Publishing), Carr tells the story of a Reformation-era heroine/5.

Why write about Olympia Morata. Because the Italian Reformation is generally unknown but in the first part of the 16th century, sparks of Reformed faith burned brightly in Italy.

Many groups were meeting for Bible study and prayer, and some members of the clergy were defending biblical doctrines. Of course, the Catholic Church-State could not tolerate such dissent.5/5(4). Letter Seventy Two pertains to Andreas Grunthler greeting the schoolmaster Andreas Campanus. For several days, Morata had been emphatically stating that there was nothing she desired more than to be dissolved and to be with Christ, whose great kindness to her she never ceased to praise, as much as the force of the.

Having forsaken all worldly pleasures and satisfactions for the sake of the cross, Olympia's story encourages us to run the race marked out for us with perseverance (Hebrews ). It is my pleasure to recommend this book to all readers, but particularly young women, who will find in Olympia Morata, a shining example of strength and courage.5/5(4).

This chapter explores the collection of poems from friends in honor of Olympia Fulvia Morata written during the course of her lifetime. As was the custom, Caelius Secundus Curio included a number of dedicatory epigrams in his edition.

The chapter has supplemented these with a few others from various sources. The poets include friends who knew Morata at Ferrara (Lilio Gregorio Giraldi, Didacus.
